Are all Actimel bottles going to be replaced with 95% plant-based bottles?
As of June 2011, all Actimel whilte bottles will made of 95% plant-based material.
Why isn’t the new Actimel bottle made of 100% sugar cane?
Actimel is committed to producing its new Actimel bottle using plant-based ingredients, with a minimum of 95% coming from sugar cane.
The remaining 5% is made up of:
- 4% non plant-based plastic from production lines.
- 1% white colouring for our bottles.
Has the taste of my Actimel changed?
No. The taste of your Actimel has not changed as the properties of the plant-based plastic are exactly the same as the previous plastic used for the Actimel bottle.
There is no difference in terms of the look, the colour or the texture with the new plant-based bottle.
Can the Actimel bottle still be recycled?
Yes, the Actimel bottle can still be recycled.
Is the new95% plant-based Actimel bottle biodegradable?
No, even though it is made from mostly sugar cane, the bottle is not biodegradable, but it is still recyclable.
Why grow the sugar cane in Brazil?
The industry and knowledge needed to transform the sugar cane into plastic are based in Brazil.
What’s more, Brazil still has enough arable land to be able to grow sugar cane without disrupting food supply.
Doesn’t growing sugar cane lead to the deforestation of tropical forests?
The majority of sugar cane destined for the production of ethanol is grown in the southern and central regions of Brazil, generally on damaged former pastureland . This is a long way away from the Amazonian forest.
