Bring on the autumn!
26th September 2011
For many people, autumn is the most magical season of them all. And it’s hard to disagree. Here’s a nostalgic look at some of the things that make autumn special.
Spring might be renowned for its blossoming beauty... But it’s autumn that steals the show!
The UK looks stunning as soft golden sun and burnt sunset skies illuminate the leaves on the trees, which glow vibrant shades of orange, red and yellow. It really is beautiful.
And what’s more reminiscent of autumn than crunching through crispy leaves as they fall to the ground?
There’s no excuse for staying inside when it’s so beautiful outside, so put that jumper on and get out there – here’s some ideas:
All Hallows’ Eve
Autumn plays host to the most ghoulish and ghostly night of them all: Halloween (or Hallowe’en).
For some it’s a chance to dress up in frightful fancy dress. Others see it as an opportunity to have some fun with trick or treating kids. For others it’s a more spiritual occasion. How ever you celebrate it, it’s nice to be part of the spooktacular shenanigans that are marked across the world. Isn’t it?
Eek! What was that tapping on the window?
Conkers, conkers and more conkers
Is there a horse chestnut tree near your house?
You’ll certainly know about it in autumn as its fruit, better known as the conker, comes plummeting down to the ground. Did you collect them as a child? Do you still collect them?
They’re another of the little things that make autumn such a joy.
Chill in the air?
There’s something special about that cheek-rosying chill of the still autumn air. It’s bracing, it’s refreshing and it makes a weekend walk that little bit more romantic.
Afterwards, sitting by the fire to get warm with a thick hot chocolate in your favourite mug is one of life’s simple pleasures.
