HOSPITALS have found a new weapon in the war on superbugs - yogurt.
Doctors at two hospitals in Bristol will be giving all in-patients prescribed antibiotics, two bottles of the probiotic yogurt drink Actimel every day.
New research published in the British Medical Journal suggests the drink contains cultures which can boost their "friendly bacteria".
North Bristol NHS Trust started the trial this week at Frenchay and Southmead hospitals to see whether the yogurt drink can reduce its numbers of C.Diff cases.
And Weston Area NHS Trust is waiting for approval to begin a similar trail at Weston General Hospital in Somerset.
